Thanksgiving 2011

Thanksgiving  celebration is over for VJ & I . We were with my mom at her sister house, with a dozen cousins . We had a great visit and a great meal . One of my cuz is a professional musician and he provided a little music after  lunch.

VJ and I have a few challenges in our life , but we have many many things to be thankful for . I know we are blessed in so many ways. I remember during my youth , my mom told me more time than I can count "there are two things you must prize your good name and your health " of course I was not near bight enough to grasp her advise; now I understand.

The weather continues to be wonderful for this late in the year. golf tomorrow hope I play better than I did tuesday.

Life is good.

Dental Issues

VJ has always been blessed with good teeth , until this year. She has had trouble brushing for some time . We got her an electric brush which helped her a lot, but she can't floss. She see the dentist twice a year for cleaning . She told me this week she has lose teeth in the front of her mouth. Her tongue is always moving which mean the front teeth receive constant pressure and she also clench her jaws while sleeping.

I spoke to our dentist about the issue and she said she must seek advise from a specialist , because she just didn't have the answer . Her first though was any appliance she would install would  not last.

Vj ability to swallow and chew is becoming more of an issue as well as her speech . She was taking a chew able chocolate calcium pill , but we had to discontinue because she could not chew it properly .

In spite of all her issues she maintains a great attitude  . She does not like to mingle anymore , we still enjoy each other and family and friend.

Great fall weather , not sure how much longer this can last.

The Cat & the VET

Is time to take Lucky the cat for his  annual check up. Simple right  well it is not simple.  Lucky is a 16lb tom cat who don't know he is a cat. We found him in the woods when he was just opening his eyes and he has been part of our family for 5 years. The drill to get him to the vet takes some planing . First thing to know is , he don't like to go to the vet . Next thing is taking him in your arm and walking into the vet office is not an option. The week before his appointment I bring his carrier into the house and sit it in a corner. He immediately goes into hiding , after a day or so he comes out but give the carrier lots of room.
The day of the appointment  i get him in the same room as the carrier  and close off the rest of the house  . I don a denim jacket  and the fun begins. I must say the next ten minutes are fit for a home video . Once at the vet he does not make any friends because he hiss at the folks most of the time he is there. Once back home and the carrier is removed from his sight all is forgiven.
VJ & I have become attached this animal and we would be sad if he were not with us  .

Vj is doing well and looking forward to the holidays which are just around the corner.

Class Reunion

The Angier high school class of 1961 held our reunion last night , maybe our last. The event was attend by27 of the original 52 . I was surprised by the # of classmates who had died since we left school there are 17 of them or about a third. There are about half of us living within 25 miles of Angier , the rest are scatter around the country . The ole tale are still being told , with a few of the details embellished. My friend James brough his first wife Ann he said she was the only one woman  would put up with him . There were a lot of stories and warm remembrances I enjoyed the time , but I think maybe we will move to an informal gathering in the future.

I received word this morning that an old friend and supervisor from work passed away last night. Bob Chisholm was a good man and he will be missed by everyone who new him . I worked for him during my short stay in Shelby and enjoyed him and his style.Another good man has gone! The funeral will be another reunion of sorts.

We are going to visit Daisy today for lunch , always a pleasant trip , but a lot of riding.
