We received the bill for our property tax this week and had an increase of 26% . It is hard to make sense of any kind of increase in property tax on real estate in the current market , but 26% makes no sense at all. I spoke to two of the commissioner about the increase and both told me " you are a rich retiree and can afford to pay " . Who does this sound like ? Soak the rich (Obama), even if thy are not rich. The folks in charge of this county have increase debt to the highest level in the history of the county, the county work force continues to increase much faster than the private market work force and is increasing again this year. The county workers have the best benefit of any one in the market and that includes the other government workers, The county credit rating is in jeopardy because the fund balance required by the rating agency is shrinking well below the 15% requirement. This is the same group who earler in the year curtailed gun owners right with changes to county rules.The editor of the local paper is a lap dog for this board and while he is quick to find fault with most of the rest of the community leader , not a harsh word for the county fathers.
This board is all members of the GOP and all have been there for more than one term . The local newspaper continue to call for the Democratic to field candidate to run against these folk , the problem they know a democratic can not win in this county. I would suggest what we need is real republicans to run, you know smaller goverment lower taxes, less regulation . What now we have is 7 RINO's
Vj and I spend a few days last week in CHARLESTON visiting with the family and looking at real estate. We had a great visit , but make no progress in the search for real estate. Our house is not getting much play so i think we are looking for a long process , if ever.(reference the above rant : the only offer we have had on this house is well below the new tax value)
I am starting to have a few little health related issue pop up , but hopefully it will all work out for the best.VJ is doing good overall , I see slow progression in the HD , but she handles it well having got over the her concern about appearances .She is a real fighter and she is trying to lead a normal life or as normal as the HD will allow.
Hot and dry, summer time in NC . Golf game is up and down , but it gets me out of the house to mix with other folks , which I think is very important for me, especial since I am giving up the civic role for the most part
